The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was centred 41 kilometres north-east of Pinotepa Nacional in Oaxaca state and police patrols were checking surrounding towns for damage. 'It felt strong, especially near the coast. It woke me up, I was scared too,' said Oaxaca civil protection official Gilberto Mateo."
